Today a group of 6 GCSE students from Sherfield School visited the hotel to find out more about traditional afternoon tea and to experience the 'Tylney way'. This was to get real life experience, to help them in their course work of creating and serving their own afternoon tea, which will go towards their GCSE in Hospitality and Catering.
The afternoon started by running through the different types of afternoon tea we offer, how to set a table in our lounges for afternoon tea and practical experience, such as laying a table themselves, pouring tea for each other and then experiencing a traditional afternoon tea.
They were also given an overview of the booking process, and the number of departments in the hotel that are involved in an afternoon tea booking and also hidden tasks that go into make the Tylney Hall afternoon tea experience what it is, such as polishing cutlery and crockery!
Throughout their time with me they asked questions and I personally found the experience very enjoyable. It is the first time I have done anything like this and I really enjoyed teaching the students about the role, showing them practical skills, which will help them in their course and sharing with them how I came to work at Tylney Hall.
I hope they found the experience worthwhile and that one day some of them may be working in the industry based on the experience gained from myself. If not, hopefully some will come back with their parents and friends to enjoy the experience again.
We wish the students the best of luck in their GCSE’s and look forward to hearing their results in the summer.
