Tylney Hall Garden Open Day

Last weekend was the last garden open day for 2011 not only here at Tylney Hall Hotel, but also in the National Garden Scheme (NGS) for the Hampshire area. Although starting off cloudy, the day stayed dry throughout and the afternoon even saw some sunshine which encouraged many people to join us for what turned out to be a very successful day.

In my personal opinion the Autumn colours of the 66 acre estate are truly beautiful and well worth a visit. This time of year the almost daily change in colours experienced throughout the estate is a joy to see. My favourite time of the day is when the sun is shining and the light has got that wonderful orange glow to it – something that only appears in the autumn months.

Over the 3 garden open days in 2011 we have raised approximately £3,000 for the NGS which goes towards the £2.5 million raised each year by the NGS and goes to nursing, caring and gardening charities. Over the last 15 years more than £25 million has been raised by the NGS for charity.

We have already planned our dates for 2012 – Sunday 1st April, Sunday 27th May and Sunday 14th October. Do try to come and visit if possible each season to see the change in the grounds and also to enjoy a cup of tea and a scone or piece of home made cake!

As the grounds are continually changing the team do a wonderful job to keep it looking immaculate throughout the year, whatever the season. They have just started a new project which is due to take 4 to 5 years to see the full effects - they are going to restore the historic Azalea Garden, to bring it back to its former beauty and glory. If the restoration of the Italian Garden is anything to go by, Paul Tattersdill and his team will do a tremendous job and it will look wonderful. We will of course keep you up to date on the developments!
