We are celebrating Jane Austen's 200th Anniversary in 2017

Lovers of romance and classic English literature can enjoy an escape plucked straight from the pages of a novel this year with a visit to Tylney Hall as we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen in 2017.

The writer of classic English novels including Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen was inspired by the picturesque county of Hampshire where she was born and lived for much of her life. Many of the real-life locations which became the settings of famous scenes in her books can be found in Hampshire, along with the village where Austen was born and the cathedral where she is buried.

Our historic building is the perfect base for Jane Austen fans visiting Hampshire, located just half an hour’s drive from Austen’s family home in Chawton, which is now open to the public as a museum.

We will be marking the bi-centenary of Austen’s death throughout the year with themed packages, events and activities available for book-lovers to enjoy. The celebrations begin this month with the launch of our Jane Austen themed-package including overnight accommodation, breakfast, tickets to the Jane Austen House Museum and a sumptuous afternoon tea at the hotel, from £240 per room, per night, based on two people sharing a deluxe bedroom. For further information on our Jane Austen Break, please contact our Reservations Team on 01256 76488 or email reservations@tylneyhall.com

Our ever-popular regular ladies luncheon events will take on an Austen twist too on Monday 5 June as we welcome a guest speaker from the Jane Austen House Museum, who will entertain guests with tales of the famous author’s life and works. Tickets are £42 per person and include a three-course meal in the award-winning Oak Room Restaurant and pre-lunch talk. Bookings for this event will open later in the year but please contact Marion Bampton on 01256 764881 or email mbampton@elitehotels.co.uk if you would like to be added to receive an invitation.

On Sunday 16 July, we will be hosting a Regency Day for both residential and non-residential guests. The celebratory event will pay homage to the Regency period and all things Austen with a themed afternoon tea and entertainment from the Hampshire Regency Dancers, all within our stunning 66 acres of grounds. Tickets for this event can be purchase via Marion Bampton on 01256 764881 or email mbampton@elitehotels.co.uk

Fans of Jane Austen can also stay with us throughout the anniversary year and make the short trip to the Jane Austen House Museum, or even visit Winchester Cathedral and see where the author is buried. Overnight room rates are from £84 per person including accommodation, breakfast and use of our wellness facilities.

Jane Austen and her literary legacy is extremely important, not only to the people of Hampshire but the whole country. We are looking forward to a year filled with celebrations of her life and works and can’t wait to welcome Austen fans from across the country and overseas throughout 2017.
